Let’s talk about your Utah driving on suspended license charges
Driver License Offenses
There are a multitude of reasons why one can lose his license. In the criminal world a conviction for possession of marijuana or other controlled substances can result in a license suspension for six months. See Utah Code 53-3-220. A Utah DUI conviction can result in a 120 day suspension and in some cases up to two years. See Utah Code 41-6a-509. Other instances which may result in a license suspension is getting too many points from speeding, reckless driving, and other minor offenses added up over time.
The problem is that in our society one must have a driver’s license. Utah’s public transportation system simply does not have the ability to provide the needs of the typical citizen. Without a license you will be placed between a rock and a hard place. You can either try to get around without a car, which is next to impossible, or you can drive to work, school, and the grocery store but run the risk of going to jail for it.
Typically, it is a class C misdemeanor to drive on a suspended or revoked license, but there are a few reasons why it would be a class B misdemeanor including if the suspension or revocation was the result of any of the following: (1) refusal to submit to a chemical test; (2) DUI; (3) DUI metabolite; (4) automobile homicide; and, (5) alcohol restricted drivers.

Another problem is that once you have lost your license and you get caught driving without it, the chances are that you will lose your license for even longer. It becomes a cycle that is difficult to exit. Further, the more times you appear before a judge for this type of offense the more likely it becomes that you will actually serve jail time.
