Poachers Beware

Poaching Defense | Utah Criminal Attorney

Summer is coming to an end across the Wasatch Front.  Leaves are changing, temperatures are dropping, football is starting, and the hunting season is beginning. Every fall thousands of people head out of Ogden, Salt Lake, Provo, and St. George to hit the Utah mountains and countryside in hopes of bagging huge game.  Shooting a big elk or deer makes for a great story and is a great trophy for any hunter.  Many hunters spend many hours hunting and it can be disappointing for some when they come out of the season completely empty handed.  Not wanting to come out of a hunting season without a kill, some individuals will resort to poaching.  Poachers beware though, sting operations by government officials may have poachers hunting for a good Utah criminal defense attorney.

The DWR’s Poaching Operation

Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) warned potential poachers this week that they are going all out to catch to them.  The DWR will use robotic deer placed at the side of roads to catch poachers.  The fake deer will move and look like a real deer suckering in any hunter who wants to shoot a deer after hunting hours have ended.  The DWR will put the deer throughout various areas of Utah and then wait nearby to see who shoots at the deer.  Once the deer is shot at, the gestapo-like DWR will swoop in to cite the unsuspecting hunter.

This sting operation will likely result in several citations on hunters.  These hunting violations can result in heaving fines, jail time, and loss of hunting privileges.  For these reasons, anyone from Ogden, Salt Lake, Provo, and St. George charged with poaching and other hunting violations should contact a Utah criminal defense attorney.
