Octomom and Other Recent Celebrity Bankruptcies

According to ABC news, Nadya Suleman, more famously known as Octomom, is the latest celebrity reportedly filing for bankruptcy protection. Octomom is of course the famous mother who gave birth to Octuplets after an assisted reproductive procedure made her not just pregnant, but very pregnant. The star of a highly watched reality TV show a few years ago, it seems Octomom is now in a position where all the glitter and glam of the spotlight has faded. According to court documents, Octomom apparently owes somewhere in the neighborhood of $500, 000 to $1 million dollars to creditors. In order to get out of debt, Octomom has resorted to various media activities including a semi nude magazine shoot. Octomom recently announced she was going on food stamps which sparked an interesting response from her fans including death threats from people claiming she was neglecting her children. In the past Octomom has gained significant wealth from her reality show and other entertainment venues but it seems she no longer has the funds or popularity. Octomom reportedly owed more than $30k just on the home she is renting for herself and her 14 total children in California.

Other Recent Celebrity Bankruptcies

Octomom joins the ranks of Gary Busey, Allen Iverson, Dennis Rodman, Michael Vick, and Warren Sapp of recent celebrities who have filed for bankruptcy protection. Once the celebrity wears off, people can often find themselves in a situation where they are accustomed to living a certain way when their present income cannot afford to maintain such a lifestyle. Many of us wonder how certain celebrities go from being multi millionaires to desolate. Allen Iverson for instance made over $154 million dollars during his NBA career and now recently files for bankruptcy. It goes to show that bankruptcy is often a solution for all types of people, even those who use to be very wealthy. If you find yourself in the same situation as these celebrities, talk with a Utah bankruptcy attorney at our law firm today.
