Motorcycle Driver Killed in Accident Today
Motorcycle driver killed in accident today in Riverton. Like so many motorcycle accidents in Utah, the driver of the bike was hit after a large truck pulled out in front of him, apparently the driver of the truck failed to see the oncoming motorcycle. Unfortunately this is not an uncommon set of facts. Generally speaking, most accidents involving motorcycles are the result of the other driver’s negligence and not the fault of the biker. Bikes are difficult sometimes to see on the road and while our eyes are naturally trained and adjusted to identifying cars and trucks, smaller bikes sometimes are lost on a driver’s sight or just don’t register. We urge everyone on the road to take more caution in watching out for motorcycles.
The motorcyclist involved in this particular accident this morning was a 40 year old man who was wearing a helmet and protective clothing. The biker seems to have been doing everything right in the sense he was wearing a helmet, protective clothing, and apparently was driving cautiously. However, we all know there is still a great amount of risk involved with riding a motorcycle even if you are a cautious and safe driver. The driver of the truck made a left hand turn in front of the biker who collided with the side of the truck. The rider was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died. At the time we are reporting this story, the identity of the man was not being released by the authorities, to give time for the family to first be contacted. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim.
